I Need a Rainbow (Lisa)

Updated: Aug 4, 2020

I need a rainbow. I watched a YOUTUBE clip of a man in total glory taking in a double rainbow over a mountaintop. His selfie filming of the rainbow and his reaction went viral a couple of years ago but I just saw it for the first time. It got so many hits that he even got a nickname- Double Rainbow Guy. He got invited to late night talk shows and people were actually laughing at the guy but he took me to the Church of Gratitude.

In tears I watched and listened and communed with him, remembering the moments in my life when all was crystal clear and I too became overwhelmed in tears over the utter beauty of the Miracle of Miracles; over a baby, a flower and bumble bee, over my Claire’s smile; God in all His creations. It made me feel the need to be on bended knee a bit more in gratitude, in prayer.

I’ve been praying on that rainbow moment. Double Rainbow Guy asked aloud, “What does it mean?” I asked the same, “What does it all mean Lord, this colorful arch in the sky?”

Humans have placed a good deal of sentimental value in rainbows. They are breathtakingly beautiful, unexpected and random. They are full of color and brilliance and last for a fleeting moment. They make us think of loved ones passed. They may even make us think of the wonders of the universe and finally the One who made it all.

We can look for rainbows in the sky all we want but they don’t come around on a daily basis. They are random, out-of-the-blue blessings often following a stormy time. I’ve had internal storms lately but the skies are clear today and I need a rainbow. I started looking for rainbow impressions, arches, curves found in nature, in sidewalks, in signs and fence gates, in leaves and bark and they were everywhere. The world was littered with them! It felt like God made rainbow arches all around us, to remind us of those random, fleeting miracle of miracles, rainbows. Rainbows that would lead us to Him. Remind us that He is in it all.

My life can look like just an arch, a journey from point A to B but it has been colorful, full of loved ones here and gone. It has been a breathtakingly beautiful journey, mostly because of the unexpected and random things life has presented and the mere fact that it is so very fleeting makes it precious and worthy of gratitude.

This world is not my home. I am on a journey from point A to B but if I try to live it out in a place of gratitude, it will become more than just an arch.

I want a rainbow.

Peace and Joy, Lisa
