"Here's My Heart, Lord" (Ann)

Our daughter loves music and I often rock her to sleep at night to music. Most nights the playlist consists of country music or Christian rock—the two genres I listened to most while I was pregnant with her. One night, a song came on that I had never heard before called “Here’s My Heart” by Lauren Daigle. As I listened to it and held my sweet baby, I found myself saying two simultaneous prayers:

“Lord, here’s my heart. Speak what is true into it. I want it to be more like Your heart so that my daughter can see You in me.”

“Lord, here’s my heart. You gave me this beautiful child whose precious heart first beat inside of my body. She will forever be an extension of my heart. Speak to her what is true so that she may come to know, love, and serve You and do Your will for her in her life.”

In that holy moment, I wholly surrendered both of the most precious hearts that I have ever carried (mine and my daughter’s) to God’s love, mercy, and grace. It was such a beautiful, peaceful moment and that song will now always have a special meaning for me as it reminds me of that night and that moment.
