Gratitude (Ann)

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with Linda, who has become an especially dear friend from Fidos For Freedom.

We made homemade pepperoni cheese bread (yum!), did 5D diamond art (super fun!), shared memories of our first service dogs (both silly and heart warming), and shared excitement about being matched with successor dogs. I felt such joy and hope and my spirit was lifted immensely after our time together.

On the way home, I took the back roads and passed by countless places that brought back happy memories—a literal trip down “memory lane” and true delight.

I came home and shared a piece of the still-warm cheese bread with a neighbor who just happened to stop by at that exact moment, which she thoroughly enjoyed. (A special treat for me since she has been so supportive and such a dear friend—it was so nice to extend this small gesture.)

I took a walk in the beautiful fall weather, taking in the beauty of the season.

I had a dinner of homemade matzo ball soup (courtesy of Linda as well) and cheese bread with my parents. I am grateful to still have them and to be able to share dinner with them every night and countless other small moments during the day.

I spent the evening organizing countless adorable clothes with my mom that I had gotten from Jordan for my daughter. I am beyond grateful for the support that I have received while raising my daughter—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Yesterday morning, I took Nala for a long, leisurely walk in the beautiful weather, allowing her to sniff and enjoy the day, before going to Mass. We happened to run into a neighbor of ours who was also walking her dog and we spent a few minutes reflecting on the challenges of the past two weeks but, more importantly, the blessings that have been poured out amidst the trials. When I went to Mass, the Gospel reading was the story of the 10 lepers who were healed (Luke 17:11-19). Only one came back in gratitude.

Let me always be the one that comes back in gratitude to You, Lord. Let me never forget your faithfulness and blessings, which are abundant and countless. Help me to always remember that no trial will be without blessings that far outweigh the struggle.
