Do Better (Ann)

I was sent this beautiful quote by Donna when I most needed to read it and it created a holy moment for me. In this season of Lent, we are called to "do better." It's almost impossible at times to know what "better" is and sometimes we can get stuck in a rut, feeling weighed down by our perceived failures. However, God's mercy is always calling us back to "do better" and to teach us what "better" really is. Not only does he guide us back on track, but He also redeems those perceived failures and uses them for His purpose--what a beautiful way it is that God works within our weaknesses for His glory!

I feel that God has been calling me to "do better" by showing love to others in more tangible ways and creating holy moments for the people around me. I want to instill this heart for "doing better" and loving others in my daughter so I have gotten her involved in several of my outreach efforts. One of the most fun outreach activities that we have done was for Valentine's Day. We made Valentine cards with pencils/candy on them for our neighbors (and some with dog and cat treats on them for our favorite furry friends, as well) and delivered them to our neighbors' mailboxes. My daughter chose everything specifically for each neighbor's card, down to the sticker on the envelope, and we had so much fun making these Valentines together. Our neighbors were so surprised and touched by the gesture, especially in this pandemic. It was wonderful for my daughter to experience the joy that comes from extending our love to others.

I hope that on days when you feel like you can't "do better," that you will find a way to create a holy moment for someone (or even just take a moment to breathe and pray and create a holy moment for yourself with God). God speaks to us through love, not condemnation, so be merciful with yourself and allow God to guide you to "better."
