Christ the Healer (Lisa)

Have you ever seen the statue Christ the Healer in Johns Hopkins Hospital dome? The statue is larger than life and Christ’s palms are outstretched, blackened by the multitudes of touching, pleading family members in prayer. 24 years ago, I pictured this Christ in my mind while praying for my Claire who was to have her third cranio-expansion surgery hours later. Her seizures were getting worse and they were to perform a first time ever type of surgery implanting distractor rods in her head. Unable to sleep, I lay in bed crying, whispering to my daughter and Jesus and this prayer came to me all at once. It allowed me to sleep soundly. I put it in His Hands. I am learning.

O Lord, Help us take on the posture of you. Help us stretch out our arms, palms wide open, ready for what is to come next. Amen

In His Hands

If I could take it all away

All your pain

All your tears

By giving to You my fears

I surrender

No more thoughts

No more cares

No more worries

My arms are outstretched

My hands are wide open

My face is calm and serene

I surrender

I surrender

I surrender
