Breadcrumbs (Lisa)

ree

They came this morning! Swarms of them! My friend Leeann told me of cardinals and blue jays visiting her on a daily basis. Each day she fed them bits of bread and corn. On Sunday, I threw some out but nobody came. Tuesday, I tried it again to no avail, forgot about it, then tossed more out on Friday. I wanted them to come so bad but no luck.

This week, for three days in a row a grey squirrel tapped at my window, nudging me to show up with bread bits and seeds. I never saw who ate it but I would’ve put money on the furry guy. On the third morning, my little friend, sat on the rain barrel, clicking nails on glass until I looked again to find blue and red flapping wings on the ground. It took three days in a row. Made me think about the importance of showing up and being consistent.

Who is it in our life that we are wanting to come to our window with feedback or forgiveness, a change or improvement in our relationship? If randomly popping up with a prayer, a kindness or visit is not cutting it, maybe three days in a row?

And what of that squirrel who nudgingly nudged me toward the window? I should have thanked him. Who is that grey squirrel in our life nagging us along? Deep down we know they are right but who are they? Maybe we need to thank them too, feeding them with something more than stale bread.

Showing up and being consistent with a little bit of loving nourishment and I was awash in birds of every shade. Who needs to come to your window? Are you ready to take the three day challenge together? Praying you witness a swarm of color in your own life.
